What's goin on fellas, new guy here from Alabama. I picked up a 98 Silverado about a month ago and There are a couple things I needed some help with.

Problem #1: There is a very noticeable whine when starting the truck and while it's running, which I believe is coming from the fuel pump. I researched a little bit and found that it wasn't a big deal, and I was wondering if this was true. It doesn't bother me too much, I just don't want something to go wrong due to me neglecting it.

Problem #2: The interior lights are "iffy" when the driver door is opened and closed. One day they'll go on and off fine, the next they'll flicker on and off. I believe something is shorting, but I don't know where to look. I was also thinking it could be some sort of a half-blown fuse?

Here's a couple pics of the truck. It's got some scratches/dings/dents, and it's sittin on 24s right now (not my style), but that will change as soon as I get some moolah (I'm thinkin 6" lift on 35s).

Burko, nice Chevy. My '98 K1500 also has a whine but I think it's the front pump in the transmission. That fuel pump is in the tank between the rear wheel and cab, drivers side. If it's the fuel pump you should be able to hear clearly if you get down there and listen for it under the fuel filler door. I am running 265x16 on my truck, and get plenty of clearance, so a 6" lift would mean a ladder to climb in and out. Hey, a new mod!

Fuel pump is in tank, yes, and it could be the whine you are hearing. I have a 2000 suburban that had a fuel pump recall, and has also been replaced since the dealer did. I'd look at door switch for the lights, little wd-40 or so.
