Default How easy is a catalytic converter change out on a 1997 silverado

Going to purchase this truck from a friend, he said it just needs a catalytic converter. Does anyone have a photo ofthe underside of this truck? or a video link on how to change this out and reset sevice engine light?

i can tell you that the stock converter is welded to the downpipes. you can buy this whole assembly, both downpipes with converter, as i did this a couple years ago on the same truck. or cut out the stock converter and weld in new one. converter is located just after the downpipes turn towards the back of truck. it'll be the first muffler looking thing right after the motor.

Thanx Maxxman04, called the shop today and they want $800 to do the job, I am pretty sure it will be much cheaper to go your route.

Go buy you one from advance or somewhere and just take it to a shop to put it on. Probably 150 or so for all of it.
