Default new cold air intake

i found that the guy who had my truck previously completely messed up the cold air intake. he tied it down with a shoelace to where the old airbox would sit, it also has a patched hole in it. i need to get another one because i dont want my intake just in there. which intake should i get? leaning towards a K&N, but i dont know much about intakes. i heard that you may have to grind off a little of the fan shroud is that true? trying to find an intake where water splashing up isnt a problem.

Volant makes one of the best cai I have seen for these trucks. Its completely sealed.

Those k&n intakes with just a plastic shield is not what I would call...a cai....I think they are crap

I have a K&N CIA and if you are concerned with water then this should NOT be one of you considerations. It is an open element cone style filter guarded by nothing more than a open metal "heat shield" with a plastic tube going into the intake. I did not have to trim my fan shroud to install it. My review is that it was not worth the money spent.

1st off what year truck do you have?

the only recommendation I'd give you AFA K&N goes is stay away from their intakes.
their filters are fine if you keep them oild every 5k or 6k miles.

I would use only 1 of the following CAI systems:
Volant or Airaid.

as stated if water is a concern: Volant
if not a concern than both work great.
