Yea, I found this out after my miles had expired. If it's the same problem I had the speed odometer would give false reading. Would say I was doing a 100 when I was only doing 70. Then when I would turn the truck off it would stay stuck @ 30 mph. If I would start the truck and turn it off several times it would finally get back to zero and work fine for months. Anyway its some ones problem now, I bought an 08 crew cab.

Take your truck in and complain. They will _most_ likely fix it for free, as GM admits they used crappy stepper motors in the clusters. It's not a recall, per say, but more of a "we'll fix it since you've complained about it"

I've replaced a cluster from an '03 with over 200,000 kms and GM's paid for it, no questions asked.

I have a 2004 Tahoe that has a tachometer problem. It bounces all over the place. The Tahoe and Silverado use the same instrument cluster so I'm wondering if the cluster is also covered on the Tahoe. Can the tachometer itself be replaced or do I need an entire instrument cluster?

So a silent recall? Where do you find out more or where can you enter your vin online?

if one thing is going to crap on your instrument cluster....... you need the whole cluster. go to your local dealer to see about the vin. remember if its got over 70k on the trip... your done.

GM is calling this a equipment recall. As far as I know you don't have to have a failure to have it replaced. But I don't know about whether you have to initiate it. They DID send me letter to have mine replaced thats all I know. A silent recall is sometimes called a warrantee extension, thats not what this is.

It wasn't a recall. It was a warranty extension on the cluster.
