Default silverado 1500

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum.

I have a 1999 chevy silverado with the 4.8L. I would like to have a little more power and torque in the truck than I have right now. I am not a mechanic by anymeans so I would like to know what I could do to accomplish that. Also, what is the best type of exaust system. I have flowmasters, but it was done to the truck before I owned it and I'm afraid it wasn't done properly. Infact I know it wasn't. Anyways any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Have a good day.

cheap easy to do upgrades:
cold air kit

flowmaster single in dual out exhaust 40 or 50 series

reprogram your computer- do some researchon which is best for your truck- I used hypertech

change plugs to ac delco platinum- the gap has been changed from the oem setting from60 to 40 and makes a difference

fresh fuel filter

clean injectors

The OEM AC Delco spark plug for the 1999 4.8L were a Platinum type, they have been updated to an Iridium tip part #41-985.

Other then making sure the engine is properly tuned and running correctly installing aftermarket go-fast goodies, intake and exhaust systems to this engine generally have little impact on improving performance.
The 4.8L is the same engine as the 5.3L but with a 9mm shorter stroke which reduces the compression ratio from 9.9:1 down to 9.0:1 meaning that this engine suffers from terminal low compression and adding a free-er flowing intake and exhaust won't have the same benefit as if these parts were installed on an engine with more potential.
