Tapping into wires from fog light switch
05 Chevy Silverado 1500 x4x. I want to install some after market fog lights. I want to hook them up the button on instrument panel for the foglights. When I press the button a symbol comes on like the lights are on.
In the fuse box area I was able to pull the wires down and look at them. Which 2 wires are the positive and negative?
Unless you know where the wires are after the fuse box?
Here are the colors of the wires:
Orange
blue and white
green and white
brown and white
black and white
purple and white
I borrow a pic from ERT Jeffery.

On my 2006 silverado the switch you are pointing to controls the cargo lights in the bed of the trucks and the fog light switch if it has one will be directly below that switch. I do not have fog lights so it is only the cargo light switch and a spot that is just black plastic underneath it

most but not all wires to the fuse box are either the "line" or the "load" wire and both are effectively "positive" the negative on most vehicles is the body or chassis ground.
you don't have to run a negative wire to your lamps only the switched positive as you will take the negative wire and attach it to the body or frame.
A wire diagram would be helpful , however you can also buzz out each potential location to see which has power.
Keep in mind that you don't want to run any lamps directly from the power source you find but to use that source to power a relay that takes the power from the battery.
(using a switch to turn on the relay to send power to the lamps from the battery)
