I am having trouble figuring out what size of wheels and tires to put on my truck, without having to put a lift on. I currently have a 2004 Z71 ext. cab, short bed, 4x4. There is no lift on it and have stock wheels with 265/75-16 tires.

I am wanting to put Nitto Terra Grappler 265/70-17 tires on Daimo 17 Karat wheels that are 17 x 10. What I am wondering is will 265 be wide enough, or should I go up to 285. And will I have problems with rubbing anywhere inside the fender well or on the frame when I turn when I do this. Just didn't know about offset and backspacing and all of that stuff, if it would work or not. The guys at O'Reillys couldn't give me a straight answer.

I have an 04' Crew Cab Silverado and it came with 17" rims with 265/70R/17 Bridgestone Duellers A/T. I recently installed a set of PROCOMP 1059 17x10 rims with the same tires and it gave the truck a nice wide/mean stance. The tires now extend about 2 inches outside of wheel wells, it looks nice. I personally hate the way Chevy sets up their trucks to be higher in the rear then in the fron, and wanted my truck level. Alot of people told me to just do a torsionbar crank, but this degrades ride quality. I opted instead for a leveling system by ReadyLift, it gives the front end a 2-3" lift while maintaining stock torsion bar location thru the use of forged torsion keys, I think I found it online for about 150bucks. Even if you dont do a level on the fron you should be more then fine with your new rims and the tires you mention. With the Leveling kit installed you can accomodate up to 33" tires, Im not positive but I believe the 265/70/17 equates to a 32" tire. While your under there I would also change the shocks, I didnt have the Z-71 package and my stock shocks absolutely sucked, so I upgraded to a set of ES9000 ProComp shocks. Ride quality is better then stock and I dont get any wheel hop during hard braking. Hope this helps.

They sit higher in the rear so that They will sit level when loaded ( It's a pickup truck not a car ).
On the tire sizing Thing, Here's a formula to determine tire height.
Example: 265x75x16
265 divided by 25.4 ( Converts MM to inches ) = 10.4331"
10.4331 times .75 ( puts the aspect ratio in place ) = 7.825 "
7.825 times 2 ( adds the two sides of tire outside the rim together ) = 15.65"
Then add the rim diameter in 16 + 15.65 = 31.65 " Overall height
If you use the same formula on the 265x70x17 , You'll find that They're 31.61" Overall height , so it's virtually the same.
