Question *this is going to be fun to figure out* dash cluster issues

alright.... so i have a 99 silverado z71 1500 ext cab 4wd, about 2 months ago the instrument cluster started acting funny. it would act like the truck got shut off and turned back on every time i hit a bump or if i hit the gas peddle. then gradually it started to stay off all together. at one point it would only come back on if i put it in reverse and hit the gas fast. now the cluster is dead have no lights on except for the check engine light and my signal lights.there is a weird thing it does, where if i turn on my heater on settings 1-4 (no higher or lower) and turn the key beyond the on posistion slightly i can get the speedometer to work. also with the heater on if you turn the key very slowly the battery/security light will turn on. since the cluster stopped working my cruise and tow package both dont work. also ive noticed all four of the 4wd lights sometimes stay on while i drive or the a/c and the other two bottons under the heater controls stay on. really puzzled... just hopeing someone can help me out.

things iver tried...
-firewall ground is fine
-ground wire in the dash to left side is fine
-ground wire under the driver side of the cab along the frame (cleaned and reattached w/ new bolt).
-bcm
-new cluster

Just my 2cents, I'd pull the steering column shroud off and check the connections to the ignition switch...and any other possible connections in the column while your there...

Hi asbeutel,

Welcome to the Chevy Forums.

There is a large group of modular connectors at the internal

fuse buss. It may help to check, and make sure none of these,

or any others under the dash, worked their way loose, which

may have happened, if the prior owner put it thru a hard

offroad whoopin', on a regular basis...
