Default 01/02/03/04 Silverado Opinons

Hey guys,

I'm looking into buying a used Silverado 1500 Crew Cab, preferably an 01, 02, 03, or an 04, so I can finally get rid of my P.O.S. Jimmy. I'm a loyal GM buyer, and wondering what some of you think about your trucks. I've been very impressed with all that I have seen, except the steering column issue kind of worries me. Let me know some of your personal good/badexperiences about these great trucks!! Looking forward to hearing from you!

I had a 2001 GMC and a 2003 Chevy. Both 4X4s and had no problems with either, except an early call back for reprograming computer. Just traded the 03 with quadra steer on a 2007 Siverado. It was probably the best vehicle I ever owned and I've owned a lot.

I just sold my '02 Ext. Cab, 4X4, Z71 to buy an '05 Crew Cab, 4X4, Z71.

I loved my '02 - best vehicle I've ever owned (except for a '53 Cadillac Limousine I had in college, but that's another story), but I just got tired of dealing with the rear suicide doors.

The "new" one should now be just PERFECT!!

just a reminder of the older trucks, my 92 1/2 ton silverado seen 180,000 miles of nothing but trailer towing, very hard abuse, street racing, burnouts, donuts in the roadand just plain beatin the hell out of itand it still lives on. it was a 350 5 speed extend cab with the SS suspesion3 &4" dropand icoudlnt kill it.the newer trucks seems to be holding up just as strong as the old trucks were. im a little unsure of this newer 4.8 and 5.3L motors. they shoulda stuck to the good old 350. ( i think the 6.0L is just a stroked out version of it) - but just to say that 92 chevy truck is the ONLY vehicle that has ever survived me driving it longer than a month or two. it lasted me a really long time so if you take care of one it'll go forever.
i miss that truck
this 07 4x4 just isnt the same.

I have a 96 right now runs great. In the next 6 months or so I plan on buying another 03 or newer 3/4 ton to pull with. If you are worried about the steering colum you can get a replacement from flamingriver.com or borgenson.com. If you look back at old posts you will also find a post about the steering colums with a copy of a GM buliten. Other than that if you buy a new one the only thing I have heard it to wash the dash with soap and water, no armorall or any of that stuff.
I think you will like it.

I bought a 1999 1500 5.3 with 135,000 miles that had been used as a glass truck. I ran it hard for a year as a tow rig and work truck. This thing impressed the hell out of me. Not one problem in that years time and it ran like a race car! Only tradded it caused I need to tow more weight than the 1500 was rated for. I bought a 2002 2500 HD 8.1 with 100,000 miles. So far, it is doing just as well as the 1999 and boy do I love that big block grunt!!! These trucks are built to last and I would trust any of them, that are in decent condition, with less than 200,000 miles on them.
