I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado 5.3L v8 4WD that is having engine problems. It will start but stalls out. I’ve cleaned the throttle body, MAF, changed plugs, changed fuel filter & cleaned out EGR valve. Nothing I have tried helps. The service engine soon light is on. Just wondering if catalytic converter is plugged up or is there other things I can try before taking it into the dealer?

 

Have the codes checked as to why the check engine light is on. With the codes it may direct you to the problem.

As right now you are like a DR operating without a light in a dark room. Shed some light on the subject--get the codes to better determine what is going on.

BTW, been there, done that (on all the uneccasry repairs), lets not do that again (as if cost more than taking it a qualified mechanic to run the code and fix it). It was humbling lesson that I learned when I was trying to save some money and it cost me more, not to mention the time inolved and frustration.
