02' & 04' high steering effort
New to this forum and looking for help. I have two silverado's 2002 and 2004 both are reg cab short beds Z71's with 5.3 engs. The 2002 has 24000mi and the 2004 has 33000mi. The problem (although the local dealership says there isn't) is high steering effort in both trucks, it seems to take a considerable amount of grip to turn the wheel in both trucks no matter when sitting or going down the road and turning. I say this because I also have a 2002 Tahoe that requires very little effort as in one handedor one fingered. In the past I have had a 98' silverado and also a 96' Tahoe and both of those required very little effort. If high steering effort is the nature of the beast in the 02' & 04' trucks does anyone know of modifications or kits that can be put in these to make them as pleasurable to drive as the Tahoe ?

I have had the dame issues with my 04 silverado Z71 actually on my way to the dealership now. will let you know what transpires. A good friend who is a mechanic notified me of a service bulletin regarding the steering box. going to see what its all about.
