02 silverado with 202,000 miles. Run and hide or go for it?

So I'm looking to buy my first vehicle and have always wanted a truck.
Me and my fiancé wandered over to a used car lot in town and found a 02 silverado 2wd base for $5,995 with 202,571 on the ODO
Sadly there's no powered windows or locks, where the 4wd controls would be there's a empty hole, the tailgate latch and bevel are missing (less than $10 to replace off amazon)
Other than cosmetic flaws I see no problem, but the mileage has me worried...
But I was raised on how to keep up on preventative maintenance so I'm gonna keep up with regular oil changes and fluid changes and other basics.
It's a nice truck

PASS on the truck, For that price you could get a 1500 LT 4x4 with all the goodies. Just keep searching and you'll find one. If it was kept up maintenance wise the mileage wouldn't scare me away. I have a 1999 Silverado 1500LS 4X4 w/ 202000 Miles. Have two 2001 Silverados one a 1500 LT 4X4 w/ 230000 and a 2500 HD LT w/ 185000. All just keep rolling with good service.

Welcome to the forum!
Although the truck looks nice aesthetically, you should run from that engine. A very close friend of mine has the exact same truck as you are looking at: 2001 Chevy 1500 2wd with the 4.3 v6. The only difference between his and the one you're looking at is the cab length; his was a single cab, not an extended cab. The engine ran strong with 207,xxx miles on it until about 4 weeks ago when the engine literally blew apart. After he and I did some research, we found that the early 4.3 v6's were not as reliable as people think.
Keep this in mine: I bought my truck, which is a 2000 Chevy 2500 (non-hd) ext-cab 4x4 LT with the 364 v8 for $6500. If I can find my truck for such a cheap price, you can absolutely find a smaller truck, like a 1500 4x4 with the 5.3 or 4.8 V8, for a much better price!
Hope this helps and good luck hunting!
EDIT: I took the liberty of looking up a nicer truck for you.

This is a VERY nice truck. It's 4x4, 5.3 V8, Ext-cab, and, the best part, it only has 100898 miles on the ODO! It's a bit more expensive, but in my opinion, it's worth it!

Looks real real nice! Only down side is the mossy oak camo, team realtree all the way. But we aren't financially set to drop that much down..
So in other words I'm glad I'm also looking at this 02 as back up http://mobile.dealercarsearch.com/VehicleDetail.aspx?InventoryId=4125957&Guid=ed71a3 f0-38f1-4a64-b09e-248a0ea208b9
And also looking at this 07 http://mobile.dealercarsearch.com/VehicleDetail.aspx?InventoryId=4101922&Guid=ed71a3 f0-38f1-4a64-b09e-248a0ea208b9

Shoot at least I talked my fiancé away from a 09 cobalt with over 100,000

Those all look very nice, especially the 07!
Regarding the craigslist post, and please know that I'm not trying to push you to buy that truck, the sellers are usually pretty good about coming down on their price. You may be able to get that truck for 6250 or 6000 even!
I agree with you on the Mossy Oak. I have an Uncle that works for Realtree, so I am VERY partial to their patterns. :P
Good luck on your search!
