02 silverado Xcab brakes grinding?
Non-4x4 truck(1/2 ton) 2002 /w big gas engine. I have had this truck for a few months. I just recently noticed the front brakes grinding at slow (10-20 MPH) speeds and during braking to a stop. The rotors ars slick (no grooves) and pads are probably 65%. I did not detect any grinding when rotating the rotor (wheel removed), just the sound of the pad grabbing the rotor slightly. Am I just paranoid?
I'd take a closer look at your inboard pads. For some reason these trucks seem to eat the inboard pads a lot faster than the outboard pads. If everything checks out ok, I would take calipers off the rotors and lightly sand the pads with some rough grit sandpaper to remove any contamination. I'd also make sure the grinding is coming from the front. Stick your head out the window while braking if you have to. I'd driven both cars and trucks where it sounds like it's grinding in front, but it's actually the rear, or vise versa. Anyways, good luck.
