04 2500 6.0 Headers, exhaust, gears ???
So, I'm on deployment and the wife is taking care of my truck while I'm gone. She said when she was checking the oil she notice a bolt head had snapped off on the exhaust manifold. I know this is a common problem with the 6.0.
So time for an upgrade. What headers are people running? Its a 4wd lifted 6" running stock everything except a K&N intake.
My plan is for a set of long tube headers, exhaust, gears (for the 35" tires), and a tune.
What gears are in it now? 2500 nonHD 4wd Crew Cab with 6.0.
What gears would be good for 35's?
What exhaust do people like? I'm not a fan of flowmaster.
What are people running for headers?
Should I be looking to do a X pipe someplace?
Should I be looking into a new MAF from summit or jegs with all the new airflow mods?
Also will it be wise to loose the clutch fan and go with duel electric?
I live in FL and not worried about inspection stickers.

ok
the gears i have a 2500 non hd and my rear end is 4:10 which i would keep if you have 35s
exhaust depends on what your looking for many differnet people like differnent brands magnaflow has a nice tone but not loud and cant rly hear it in the cab (i like cab noise) flowmaster sucks flow like crap, spintech a few people like nice tone and flows good, borla has a nice deep tone but not loud, corsa is exspencive but nice tone, glasspack are raspy depending on the setup but dynomax bullets sound cool, personaly im putting 2 cherry bomb extreme for a true daul setup, they flow well sence its a single baffel, and it sound nice and mean as hell
headers i would go with long tube headers sence shortys are almost the same as stock manafolds and you get torque and sound out of long tubes pace setter has a nice brand and i kno a lot of people with them they go for about 600$
x-pipe if your running a true dual set up i highly recomend an x-pipe (im putting one on my truck) they smooth out the sound and make a vacum affect to help pull exhaust out also it equalizes the exhaust
the truck comes with a maf and should be able to handle with no problems
and yes ditch the clutch fan and get eletric you want pullers not pushers you will get better gas mileage not much but its there and cooler engien temps
hope this helps

If you take the VIN # into your local chevy dealer's service department, they would be able to tell you what your gear ratio is. You might be suprised to find out what information they can tell you just by the VIN #.

My 04 2500HD gears were 410 stock.
Your RPO codes in your glove box will tell you your gear size.
GT5 and GT8 are .....................4.10
GT4 is ................................... 3.73
and GU6 is ...............................3.42
as posted prior, 4.10s should be able to handle 35s and a moderate
build.

OK thanks guys. I'll have the wife take a look for me. The truck is slow off the line and with the 35's I feel it is lacking in gears. The lift and tires were installed by the PO and there was no info if any gears were done.

Last year I had a tune done on my 6.0. www.blackbear.com I was amazed at the difference. It was night and day. Its a great price for what they can do, just a hassle sending ECM back and forth to VA. You'll notice more pep. Just dont get a Blackbear tune, until you know exactly what mods you want done to your truck. Helps them to fine tune it better.
I love flowmaster, so I cant help you on exhaust.
I'd go for electric fans. From what I've read they are worth it. I'm looking for some for my truck right now.

Bear in mind, of course, that a lift build, even with proper gears, is not going
to lend your truck to speed.
Builds, like calibers, are a study in compromises.
I tuned mine for highway mileage, and cruising. 342 gears. It'll NEVER be fast,
or punchy in the dirt.
With 35s, you'll have everybody by the short hairs in the dirt, but don't
expect a whole lot on the tarmac, unless you want to plow a lot more dough
into it.

I understand that I won't be fast off the line... crew cab running 35's will do that. I run 4.56 in my lifted CJ running 35's and I like how it feels. I plan on getting mine tuned after I do all the mods with a local guy everyone suggests. EFI Alchemy here outside Jax. FL. I plan on just trying to gain a little MPG on highway and around town. I dont do any heavy towing its right now my commuter.
