I have an 04 silverado crew 4x4 that has seemingly overnight started knocking in the morning for 5-7 minutes and then quiets down just like normal. No idle issues or oil pressure just sounds like clacking lifters.
My truck has 93,000 miles on it and I shouldnt be having this at this limited life span. The dealership is telling me they want to replace all my lifters and cam or replace the motor for $5500. Anybody have an idea?
Ive seen posts on earlier model years with piston carbon buildup but not the later years. HELP!!

 

hey j, does it sound like a knock or a rattle? i had what i thought was a knock in my bottom end. took it into the shop and two techs used a stethascope and diagnosed it to be my catalytic converter. i have the same year truck and motor. no aftermarket cats for our year. replaced the cat and havent heard the noise since. keep us posted.

 

No- Sounds more like clacking lifters, then quiets down after aboutt 5 minutes.
Its a real embarrasment when I start it up but need it to get to work. if i dont find a solution very soon I will be forced to trade. Love my truck and looking for an alternative. Thanks

 

ok. my noise lasted a few minutes until the vehicle warmed up then went away. the noise was really defined on a cold start. mine was an embarassment as well. lol. but good luck
