Default "05" silverado 4.8 ltr. V8 fuel filter question?

My brother has the above mentioned truck and has been told that the fuel filter is part of the fuel pump assembly, located inside the gas tank. However, I looked under the truck and saw a in-line filter, I thought maybe his truck was a transition model but nobody lists a fuel filter for his year and engine. Any and all help is appriciated.

Tom

Hi cazador223,

Welcome to the Chevy Forums.

You've got the filter(easily available in most parts stores) on the frame rail many of us wish we had, so consider yourself lucky.

You have to relieve fuel pressure before you replace the cartridge. Be sure to use line wrenches and bolt loosener to get the old filter out, or you may tear up your fuel lines.

GM Parts Direct shows a listing for the fuel filter for the 05 Silverado however it does not show weather it is an internal or external filter, its list for $16

@therewolf, how do you "relieve fuel pressure" as you mentioned above?

Opening the gas cap will relive internal tank pressure, when you first loosen the fuel line do it slowly to bleed off any pressure, you can also use a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel line check port to check and relieve pressure....
