Tried to switch from 2 wheel into 4 hi and the 4 hi light started blinking. It switched into auto 4 wheel with out hitting that button and will not switch to anything else. When i hit any other button it just blinks for a few seconds and quits. Tested the switch and all the buttons are in the correct ohm range. Service 4 wheel drive light now comes on. I just changed the encoder motor 9 months ago. Any help would be appreciated....

 

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but more than likely it's

the actuator solenoids(or whatever GM calls them now) between

the switching module on the dash,(which is probably OK) and the

shifter controls at the transfer case, and trannie. (All of which are also

probably OK) This is a common problem with the electrical 4WD controls,

which you don't have with a manual 2WD/4WD shifter.

IMHO, unless you are going to shift into 4WD a couple times a week, at least,

you may be better off with the clunkier old manual shifter, next time.
