Did it just start doing this?
How much oil is it consuming? Such as 1qt every 500 miles or 1,000 miles or 2,000 miles etc?
Do you notice any gray smoke (not steam) when you first start it after it has sat for several hours?

as far as the consumption..i couldn't tell you..i would have to start keeping track..i started using synthetic since the first oil change when i bought it brand new. dont know if that would make a difference..but sometimes smoke does come out the exhaust when i first start it up after it has sat...but light smoke..not dark..and not alot..if it is the switch..is that something i can change or have to take in to the dealer

A faulty oil pressure switch will not cause oil consumption, if it is not sealed it may cause a leak but you said that you don't have a leak.
My best guess is that there were some 5.3L engines that were assembled with faulty valve stems, if this is the case both cylider heads will need to be replaced.
Have the dealer reference GM Document ID #1961494 for more information, if your engine is effected by this then there is a good chance that GM will cover the repairs as a good will gesture even though you are out of warranty, if you have an extended warranty then it should cover the repairs provided the oil consumption is beyond acceptabe levels which are no more then 1qt in 2,000 miles.
Synthetic oil has nothing to do with this.

GM repair Manual says it will. Course it could be wrong. I don't know for sure my pig just leaks never had an issue with the switch.
