Default 1500 surges/thrusts at idle speeds
I just bought the pickup (89, 2wd, 305) and on occasion it surges forward while sitting at a stop light. So far it's only happened during cold weather, and at the same time there seems to be some noises coming from behind the dash on the passenger side - kind of like a pump gasping for air...

any ideas?

That seems to be your EGR valve...it is on the passenger side right behind the throttle body...it is fuel injected right?
