I purchased a remanufactured quadrajet carburetor(17085003) and installed it on a 350 V8 engine but it is idling too high. What could the problem be? Is it the timing? or could it be something else?
Thank you,
Estevan

could be a lot of things ,need a little back ground on engine and carb stock engine what kind of choke on the origonal carb and on the new carb.the numbers put it in the early to mid 1980's .could be vaccume leak .stuck choke ect .

Well its a 1980 chevy 350 engine with an 85 carburetor. It has an electric choke on the old and new one. I did turn the idle screw to see if it would lower the high idle but no luck.

first thing i would do is verify that the throttle plates are closing all the way ,and that the choke is not stuck on the fast idle cam ,some time's it is easy to reassemble them incorrectly .
check for any vacume leaks at the carb base (mismatched gasket)loose mounting bolts hose's dropped off .spray a little carb cleaner or brake clean around the base of the carb to see if the speed picks up when running .if so it leak,s make shure the gasket matches the
intake and carb and no ports are left uncovered .
