Exclamation 1968 C20 blinkers - HELP!!!

My 1968 C20 blinkers have me baffled. When the hazard lights are on, they all blink. When i have my foot on the brake, the brake lights light up. When my foots on the brake, and i turn the turn signal on, the side that the turn signal is supposed to be on, is off and not blinking. and for the turn signals to turn that sides brake light off, the headlights have to be on. This is with the key forward.

Hi C20,
Was anything worked on before this problem started?

If nothing was done to affect this condition I would think that you have a bad bulb(s) or you could have a bad ground problem.

Good luck.

1968 has a simple steering column. I would say bad headlight switch but you are going to have to crawl under the dash and see what the wires look like.

Most wierd turn light problems are caused by a bad ground. Look at the bulb sockets and see if they are rusty.

check the bulbs in the instrument cluster. they are all the same #168/194. The car is almost 50 yrs old. The bulbs dont last forever. You can go to Ebay and get new bulb sockets and colored LED bulbs to replace them.

You also need a ground from the frame to the cab. Remember the cab sits on rubber mounts. Assuming the bulbs and fuses are good the reostat on the headlight switch that controls the dash lights may be burned out.

Exclamation New problem

Ok. My headlight switch was definitely going bad. You had to jiggle the **** to get the dash lights to come on. So I bought a new headlight switch today, put it on, and now only the headlights come on. None of my dash lights, side marker lights, or (blinkers) running lights turn on. I thought maybe a bad ground. But I don't think that's what it is. I have a tach that i installed, that's grounded in another spot, and it won't even light up. I think its a bad switch, but I need more opinions.
