Default 1988 C1500 Fuel Pressure regulator

Strange problem. Took apart my fuel pressure regulator. Found the spring to be broken into 3 pieces. Ordered a new replacement kit. New spring is shorter than the original spring. Ordered another kit. Same thing. Looked on eBay at all the kits one could buy. They all seem to be shorter than stock. The shorter spring is not stiffer to make up for the shortness. Found a spring only on eBay and its the same size as my original broken spring. So what's up? First pic is the original vs new. Second pic is eBay spring only.

The replacement spring will work fine. The TBI system only needs about 10 +/- 2 PSI to function properly.
