1989 Silverado 1500 steering column key question

1989 Silverado 1500 steering column key question
I have to replace my steering column on my 89 silverado, and was wondering if anyone has swapped a newer column and door locks to get rid of the 2 separate keys. any info and advice would be awesome, Thanks!!
