1990 k3500 transmission help

I have a 1990 k3500 7.4l, 4l80e trans. The truck will not go into any gear until it has been running at least 30 minutes. After that, the trans works perfectly. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Filter is plugged.

I will drop the pan in the morning, and change the filter. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks for the tip.

1990 k3500 transmission help

I changed the fluid and filter, and cleared the coolant lines. Now it only takes 5 minutes running before it goes into gear. That's a lot better than before.

Are you real sure the fluid level us up to the full mark, hot and idleing? If so, I would be for putting a pressure gauge on this guy to see what we're dealing with.

Was there any "mud" in the pan?
