I just bought a 1995 Chevy 2500 Cheyenne 3/4 ton 2WD truck this afternoon. It was a work truck that has 245,000 miles. It runs smooth but the tranny shifts a little rough in spots.


I'm trying to find out what tranny I have in this truck. It's either the 700R4 or the 4L60E. In doing so, I'm also looking for an online, downloadable service manual for this truck.


If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.


I bought this truck as a project truck for my 14 yr old son. We are going to fix the cosmetic issues with the truck along with the mechanical/interior issues.


Any and all help is greatly appreciate. I am new to this site, so I'm looking forward to gaining as much info as possible when we go through this truck.

Probably has the 4l60E. if its shifting weird rebuild it. these trannies are garbage.

Buy a Haynes manual for your truck at any parts store or amazon before you even turn the hood bolts.

I would have figured a 2500 would have a 4l80 trans. One look at the trans pan will identify it.
