1996 5.7 K&N filter

Im considering the k&n air system and want to know if it actually improves horsepower and mileage.

k&n makes a good filter, a system not so much.

IIWY I would go with a Volant or airaid Cold Air Intake system and a k&n or spectre filter.

check this out it can be adapted to the stock vortec setup on the right side if you move the battery to the left side
