1996 Chevy 1500 4.3L
This is my first thread. I'm working on my buddy's 1996 4.3L truck (170,000) and I'm getting no fire out of the coil wire. I replaced the Rotor Button and the cap is fairly new and dry. The rotor button turns when cranked so I know the distributor gear should be good. He said it fired up and drove to work (10 Minutes) and then 8 hours later it would just crank. I know there's another electrical part under the rotor button. Can that be checked or is it just a replacement part? Any ideas would be great! Thanks

no. without the truck running, you will never generate anywhere remotely near enough to shock at all. even with it running, it wouldn't be enough to shock you.

1996 Chevy 1500 4.3L has no spark?
This truck started one morning and later that day all it would do was turn over.. I replaced the rotor and the cap is dry and clean. The rotor turns when engine is cranked so gear is good. Fuel is flowing because I removed a hose (in/return I guess) on top of the Manifold and fuel flowed like crazy while it was being turned over. I removed the distributor after after a long hesitation cause I'm afraid I'll not gonna get it back in place correctly for it to be in time. I did mark it first. Fuel filter is new. I'm not good with OHM meters and such. THis thing will turn over all day and not fire.....?????

Check out this link, I think either the coil or the Electronic Ignition Control Module.

i have a 97 with the 4.3 and the eexxact same thing happened to the truck before i got it it was my grandpas truck one day it just didnt wanna fire and it sat for a week before we got it up and running again. i tried everything from jumping even a little bit of starting fluid and it just didnt wanna fire, it even popped every once in a while, ended up being a bad connection, im not sure but i think it was all because the darn battery cables were loose or something rediculous like that, and why would it make it do that? im not sure, but a new cap and rotor did help

Rebooting this tread.. The other day I was driving and thought the truck ran out of gas it just died mid driving. I hasnt started since. It will crank but when i put starter fluid in the throttle body it wont do anything. My guess is no spark. Need help on where I should start to narrow the issue down. Im not getting any codes guessing i can either test the ignition module or just buy one and take it back if it dont solve the problem
