Default 1997 ck 1500 z71 brake running lights

I jus bought a complete housing assembly for both right and left and plugged them in. The brake lights work when I apply them as do the turn signals, but at night unless i press the brake or turn signal i have no lights in the back..no running lights at all.

This may sound stupid, but are you turning the lights on?

My 99 K-1500 has daytime running lights, daytime runners do not engage the tail lights, only the headlights. Tail lights do not come on until you actively turn on the headlights.

Well, shortly after buying mine, I was talking to a guy who also really loves the GMT 400 platform and he went into his garage and grabbed a spare switch he had and gave it to me saying "Here take this, these switches sht out a lot"

That said, I think you are on to it. Look into replacing that switch.

Also: while you are down there, reach up behind the dasn right on the break pedal way up in the dash there is a big wire connector box. Grab a hold of that and give it a squease make sure it's seated securely. That box will be the stop lamp switch, they some times start to separate if the pedal goes all the way to the floor hard.
