Default 1998 Chevy 4x4 Starting issues

I have replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump seems to be working fine. When i put starting fluid inside the tb it starts up runs for aslong as it takes to burn the starting fluid or gas up then dies.....I also replace the fuel pump relay

Before this started happening i noticed a decline in power when i was trying to get on the freeway, when before it wasnt diffcult picking up speed. When i replaced the fuel filter, i had to put some gas in the throttle body to get it gonig through the lines again. Any ideas on what it might be??

Are you getting fuel to the fuel pressure relief valve?

sounds like a fuel pump to me.the vortec engines need a minimum of 52 psi to start, with a fuel pressure tester hooked up you should see about 60 psi deadhead which means turn the key on engine off.your pump may run but it may not be supplying proper pressure and enough fuel volume to run the engine.a easy way to tell if your pump is bad if you dont have a fuel pressure tester is to block the throttle body with your hands and have someone try and start your engine if it fires up it means your fuel pump is weak.by doing this it allows the fuel pressure regulator to fully open up and allow more fuel to flow momentarly and start the engine.it could be other things, but it,s worth a try.its old school and it works nine times out of ten.but a fuel pressure tester is your most accurate way to find out if you have a faulty pump.hope this helps.
