I have a 99 2500 silverado. It was the first 2500 in the new body style. It has the 6.0 with the 4l80e. I was wondering if anyone has made a 2500hd clone? I have a Hd hood on it now. I know the grill is different. What about the bumper? Is it brackets or is it the top cover, or both? Just wondering if anyone has heard of this or done this? Thanks Jay.

 

Kind of what I was thinking of doing though I was gonna do the SS clone on the engine side.

 

I got an hd grill today. I will try it out when I get my truck Monday from the body shop. What would you have to do to the motor to clone it?

 

I think their supercharged but I'm not sure on that.They do have a bit more hp and tq though.

 

So far headlights and turn signals are the same the HD grill clips right in. I think the bumper brackets are different. The bumper is the same. The top cover of the bumper has to be changed for the HD grill.

 

The bumper and the bumper brackets are different. I had a hard time finding some of the brackets. I bought the HD hood for $75, grille for $50, bumper $ $100, and the brackets for $60. So I built a hd clone for 285.00 It looks like a 01-03 2500HD now. This is a cheap way to make a regular 2500 look almost as tough as it is. I think I am going to put in a bigger rear end and a set of air bags on the back for towing.

the ss silverados where not supercharged, unfortunately, they had different pistons, and i believe a different cam, but im not sure. their compression was bumped up to 10.1:1 and required 91 octane or more. they were designated by LQ9, where as the hd trucks had the LQ4.

the early hd trucks 01-02 i believe, had iron heads, then they switched over to alum. heads. again not entirely sure.

all te LQ4's in the hd series, or 1500hd/2500 series trucks, had 300hp and 360lb ft, the LQ9 had 345hp and 380lb ft.

is there any way to take the stock suspention of a 2500HD and put it on a regular HD? In theory this would give you the ability to tow the same weight as the HD.Correct or not? would probably also need the Transmission and the ecu to control the transmission unless its not electronically controlled.

I'm asking cause theirs someone parting out a 2500HD locally.
