well as most of ya know, ive been searching for a truck for some time now
i just found one yesterday
its a 1999 z71 with 112k on it
the guy said hes having trouble with finances
hes selling it for 5k and the only thing wrong is the gas gauge
it doesnt work sometimes
i researched this last night and it seems to be a very common problem in these trucks
i saw that the fix is to buy a new fuel gauge sending unit and replace it
but it involves dropping the tank, or moving the bed back 2 feet
does this sound like a good buy?
it is and hour and a half away in columbus indiana but i figured he could meet us half way
also id much rather move the bed
but how hard is it to do?

The fuel gauge on these trucks is very common. Allot of the time it is due to sulphur deposits on the sending unit. About 45% of the time this can be fixed with a product called BG 44K. It is a COMMERCIAL grade fuel injector cleaner. To find a place to purchase it go to www.bgfindashop.com. If that does not work it would be easier for someone with out a lift to pull the bed back. In a shop on a lift we always drop the tank and it usually takes about a hour.
