Default 1999 Chevy Tahoe Z71 4Dr 4x4

I have a 1999 Chevy Tahoe Z71 4Dr 4x4. I'm currently looking to do a few mods to it
but everyone has a different "theory" on what can and can't be done.

For example, everyone says that in order to get 33" tires on it I need at least a 4" lift.
However I point out to them that I have 33" tires on it and have no lift on the thing.
For the record my tires are 285/75/16 which is 33" am I wrong? I'm told to get 35"
tires on it I'd need a 6" lift.

Basically I don't want to do anything crazy or over do anything. I'd ideally like a 3"
suspension lift, 2x 6" driving lights mounted on my brush guard. A gear basket on
top.

It's incredibly hard to find anyone that knows much about these Tahoes and doing things
with them although I see a lot driving around. I'm about ready to stop every Tahoe driver
I see and ask them what they did and what they think of it and how much they spent.

Gear basket is pretty much figured out as well as the driving lights. I just have to weld
a couple tabs to my brush guard and recoat the brush guard.

Now to the point! Does anyone know about lifting this vehicle about 3" and if that causes
any problems and prices and manufacturer info.

Any good ideas will be greatly appreciated!

Pictures of my Tahoe can be found here: (they are about a year old)

Hello there,
i think you and I are in the same boat. I have a 1999 z71 Tahoe 4x4 2-door and I am looking to lift it as well. Don't have a definitely plan yet. I am with you on the lift, I don't want to do something too crazy. The most I am looking is 3" lift w/ bigger wheel and tires. I am also looking to convert the rear drum break to disc, upgrade to dual exhaust.
Have you picked out a particular lift kit yet?

alright dude, love those truck, had a 2000 z71 "old body" and miss it like hell..

Lifting, you can crank the torsion bars all the way up and get about 2inches out of it, not recommended though because it completly extends your front suspention and it can't travel down anymore. There are lift kits out there, i've seen quite a few. Most for those trucks are the same, full front frame relocation. It's cool, no problems, just gotta make sure you aligned it after you put it on. Have seen body lifts, really crappy and wobbly looking. Oh yeah ain't fun working on the engine when it just dropped 3 in after you raised the body 3in.. and as far as the rear goes, you just have to get some blocks with longer u-bolts, really easy - if you get vibration while driving you might have to angle the rear a little but that should all come with the kit i'd think.

285/75r16 are 33's but i think every thinks like 12.5 wide which they aren't know what i mean
