if you have a aftermarket stereo, make sure that the illumination wire in the wiring harness isn't shorting out.

I have a '92 that had that happen. I picked up a pack of 50 20 amp fuses. There is a wire cluster inside the engine bay up against the firewall that my friend sprayed with dielectric spray which appears to have resolved the issue... for now. I had it happening before I installed an after market stereo.

What would happen is that I would turn on the headlights and my instrument panel and parking lights wouldn't turn on and I would check the fuses and find the 20 amp fuse blown. Prior to him spraying down that cluster, he checked all lights and other things but would still blow the fuse, until he sprayed that down and it hasn't done it since...
