Hi i recently got my first truck which is the one listed in the title and i need help. I get on average 8-9 mpg in the city. I am 16 and still in high school and dual enrolling so i do not have time to find a job and going through $75 worth of fuel in 3-4 days is not good. I try and keep my rpms below 2000 as much as possible. What can I do to get better mileage. I was thinking of getting a Chip/tuner/programmer and a cold air intake but i'm not sure what brands or if that will actually help out. Please help me out. Yes i know I am only 16 but I do know my way around vehicles a little bit. Everything on it right now is stock level. Please reply to this forum or email me at pwraulerson@gmail.com if you can help me out.

Thanks so much.

Bein a 6.0 and probably havin 4.10 gears there's really not a whole lot you can do. I do suggest doin a custom tune via blackbearperformance or a local reputable company with a dyno tune or street tune capabilities. There's usually a 2 mpg increase with a tune. Also I would go and buy the airaid MIT kit. Comes with the filter and the intake tube. Dyno'd to give better gains than a full intake system.

Other than that, there's really nothin out there to give the kinda gains I'm sure you're lookin for.

I feel ya man.. i used to own a 1998 dodge ram 1500.. i got 10 MPG if i was lucky. i spent my whole summer working 10 hour days to save up for my new chevy.. i put down 3K on my pickup and about the same on gas to get to my job.. i even ran premium fuel. but there are a few things that you can do to boost your mpg. ive tried these things and they do work.

Run premium fuel. my 03 silverado gets 20MPG highway on premium and the investment pays off.

pretend there is a egg behind your gas pedal. take your time to get to speed. i know the feeling you get when you floor it and feeling 300 horses push you into your seat, but just that can use the same amount of fuel as a 2 mile trip.

dont idle. it takes more fuel to idle than it does to cruise.

make sure your tires are at factory pressure and even. this helps ALOT.

run ocatne boost and a can of seafoam thru the fuel tank on your next fill up. i did this when i bought my chevy and the motor seemed to run alot better and smoother.

if you have massive mud tires and a lift, throw these things out the window and buy a car to drive.

just my 2 cents

Everything is completely stock except the fact that I blew a tire a couple weeks ago and my spare was dry rotted. So i have three 265 all terrains and one 265 highway tread. Thanks so much for the advice and if there is anything else please let me know.

with the LQ4 motor, and 4L80 trans there is little you can do to increase mpg. get a tune, upgrade your intake, use synthetic oils, don't run 91+ gas wast of money on a stock motor, even the LQ4. will carbon up quicker. drive like a old fart, keep your tail gate up..keep the trucks weight down. don't carry anything thats not needed. last and most important..DON'T DATE FAT CHICKS..
