Default 2003 Silverado 5.3L, "Battery Not Charging"

The battery light came on in my truck and the dash was reading "battery not charging". My initial thought was a bad alternator. On a whim I replaced my battery because of negative temperatures and it being 10 pm. No luck. Next day I replaced alternator despite a test saying it was good. After replacing the alternator, the light and message went away. However, the voltage on the battery gauge is still reading very low after multiple starts and a 40 min drive home. Battery terminals and fusible link on alternator both appear to be in good condition. My next step is to replace both the terminals and the link because they're cheap fixes. If neither works, what would my next step be? Active short? Any advice or similar problem/experience would be greatly appreciated. '

Thanks.

Check the negative battery cable and the connection at the end opposite from the battery. It needs to be clean and tight.
