2003 Silverado po449 code
I have figured out what the code means but where is the vent solenoid. Is it on top of gas tank and how would I go about changing it? Almost looks like you have to take the bed off. Please tell me no>

Best course of action is to remove the fuel tank. you should try to have as much fuel out of the tank. I've siphoned off fuel before to remove a tank. When doing this, don't forget to losen the filler neck straps, when lowering the tank, watch for electrical wires.

Thanks for the reply. Was hoping there was an easier way. I can feel it by reaching hand up. just got to figure out how to get it lose. was thinking may just unhook wires and hoses and relocate it and just leave the old one there.

Just to clarify, P0449 on the 2003 Silverado means an electrical problem in the EVAP vent solenoid circuit. The solenoid is supplied a battery voltage over one wire. The PCM commands the solenoid on by grounding the other wire, thus completing the circuit. The PCM declares P0449 when it detects an illogical state on the circuit, i.e., either voltage nowhere near B+ when the circuit is open (floating) or presence of voltage when the circuit is grounded.

I agree it is more then likely the EVAP vent solenoid. On a 03 it is located on drivers side at the front and top corner of gas tank. I can feel it and see part of it looking down through space between bed and cab. I figure I can get it off but getting one back on could be a major prob. Was wondering if anyone has changed it on 03 and any helpful advice.
Thanks
