2010 5.3L first oil change
Did my first oil change yesterday at 2500 miles and switched to Mobil 1 5W-30 (I've been using it for years and still use it in our 07 Tahoe). Today at lunch (had been sitting for 3 hours) when I started the engine I got a rather large plume of white smoke. Shut down for one hour and when I started it I got the same thing.
Oil level appears to be right (although its hard to tell with new oil) as I put in 6qts with a filter. Oil pressure is as it was before the change and there is no abnormal engine noise whatsoever. Wondering if this could be a problem with thinner synthetics slipping by the valve seals on the 2010's that have variable valve timing?
Does anyone have an opinion on switching back to petro based oil to see if the problem goes away or is the general consensus that I should keep the synthetic in it and take it to a dealer?

All very strange but it seems to have sorted itself out. Parked in the garage last night to let it sit and cool so I could drain a bit of oil. After two hours I went out and started it, nothing. No smoke just a normal start. I went ahead and pulled a little less than 1/2 qt out of it and took it down the road to get it warmed up. Pulled into the drive let it sit for an hour and tried again. Again, all normal. Two hours later same thing as well as this morning. I'm baffled but glad it appears to have stopped.
