Default 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Oil Leak view

There is an odd, well, mismatched mounting of the engine and transmission castings on this model Silverado and it corresponds to the oil leak zone. The picture, if I can upload the image shows this feature in startling detail. This post is meant to follow my previous entry regarding the oil leak problem with my new 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 V6 WT model truck. I like the Chevy and GMC short bed, regular cab styling and the ride is excellent. It is unfortunate that the quality of manufacture is mediocre at best.

Default 2011 Silverado Oil Leak

I have a 2011 Silverado WT as well that is showing signs of the exact thing as described above and oil is on the black bar and dripping onto the pavement. It's going to the dealer tomorrow. Any idea the solution to this or is going to keep happening?

Default 2011 Silverado 1500 oil leak at 2222 miles

After getting dye poured into the crank case oil Feb. 7, 2012 and driving around for two weeks so the mechanics could locate the source, using a black light, it was determined my leak was coming from the rear of the oil pan. The dealer replaced the gasket/sealant Feb. 21, 2012. It has been a week and there has been no more oil leaking from this area. It was a little unsettling that oil continued to weep from the mismatched area for a day after the repair but that was due to the old slop getting tossed into the voids. The repair appears to have worked. It is still a confidence killer. Contact GM Customer Service if you have any concerns or problems with your dealer service.

Default 2011 Silverado Oil Leak

Thanks....I spoke with a friend who is a GM Mechanic and he said it is most likely the oil pan gasket and apparently the type of gasket used is not great as this is a common occurence. The problem apparently is a bad design for the gasket which GM is bad for. But still after 4100 km definate confidence killer.

Sure Enough! Oil Pan gasket. You'd think they would have figured out how to make a gasket by now. Disappointing!!

My thoughts, exactly, disappointed, worried, angry.... Well your Silverado should be fixed by tomorrow. It may drool for a day after, weeping out the old slop from that mismatched, void. It is my hope that this is the only flaw with the truck. The 4.3L engine has proven to be reliable over the years in GM products. Good luck, let Chevrolet.com know your thoughts.
