The way to reduce the sound is to cover up the light sensor on the dashboard and then you can turn the sound down by turning the dome light **** all the way down. It turns off the dashboard light but at least you don't have to hear it. Not a fix,but I can't stand that XXXXXX Sound!

Unhappy Replaced...new problem now.

I recently purchased a 2012 Silverado LTZ with the Bose radio (not navigation radio) and right away noticed the high frequency hum/buzz/ear ringing sound. I brought it to the dealer who acknowledged the issue and ordered in a new radio. A week later the radio arrived and I went to the dealer for replacement. The dealer happily replaced the radio. The dealer sent me on my way. I got in my truck and started it up. The high pitched noise was gone. A new issue was immediatly noticed. The replacement radio now has a constant "overamplified" hum coming out of all the speakers. (the previous noise was coming from the radio itself) The door chimes, reverse alarm, and turn signal sounds are now very very loud! Adjusting the chime volume to the "normal" level did not help. In addition, when the radio volume is just turned up to the first level, it is way louder than previously. I walked back into the dealer to inform and they said they would order up another replacement to see if another new radio will remedy the issue. Is anybody else having this issue...issue being that the replacement radio still is presenting issues, however not specifically the same issue? (point of interest: the orginal radio only had "talk" as a preset and the replacement one now has additional presets such as, "rock", "pop", "country", and so on...). Please share your insight and experiences.

I'm wondering if something else has to be programmed for the new radio to work with the Bose system and Bose amp properly.

Just bought a 2011 Silverado and having same issue with this terrible noise. I'm getting a response from the dealership that this recall is only on a radio with navigation. Can anyone clarify if this is only the navigation radio with the problem and whether or not the PIT5166C document only covers radios with Nav?

Looks like GM is replacing the radios. I think your dealer is giving you the run-around, check this out: Anyone have access to GM document #PIT5166C - Silverado & Sierra 1500 - GM-Trucks.com

Yes. I printed out that document from the other forum. There response was that this recall is only for the Nav radio and since mine isn't Nav it doesn't apply. I purchased the OGM-1 from Walt. Should be here in a couple days.

That bulletin is not only for the nav radios. My dealer had no problem honoring it for my radio and mine is a non-navigation radio, it is however the Bose radio. And furthermore I would like to provide an update with my situation. My dealer replaced my radio again being that the first installed replacement radio was having issues. In the second time around the new radio fix any and all issues. The first radio that the dealer installed as an attempt to fixed the problem was the wrong radio and this is why I began experiencing a whole new set of problems. The dealer should follow the bulletin because it is a proper fix!

Mine was not a nav radio and the dealer replaced it after they tried a software update. The replacement got rid of the high pitch noise.

The bulletin that I have does not specify any specific type of radio only that it comes from the radio display. I don't have a Nav Radio but I have pinpointed the noise exactly. Place your ear right on top of the volume dial on the radio and that is it!. I also brought out my mic and amp set up and ran it around the cab and sure enough its coming right out of the radio volume control. Is this ever going to be solved. Very strange occurances at Huntington Chevrolet. They pulled all the trucks off the front lot. They're only promoting their cars at my dealership. Weird

I had my radio replaced and I still have the noise. Do you happen to know what brand of radio it was. Is it a Nav Radio?
