Update. I called GM & filed a formal complaint and created a case #. Was told to take truck to dealer and have them pull radio and call engineering. Took truck back to dealer (note I took truck in March and had radio replaced and did nothing) and dropped off. Was without truck Friday pm, sat, sun, Mon, finally got call Tues pm and said it was ready to pickup and they determined radio fan noise as normal and GM had no update ... sorry.
Dealer seemed to really not care and just sent me packing again. This has been a complete waste of my time and I will just learn to live with it from here until hopfully an update is offered. I will not spend one nickel to replace the radio myself, I will and have been sharing this experience with others who have & thinking of making a purchase. Good luck folks.

This problem is confirmed and is definitely the stock radio. It absolutely drove me nuts. After one month I had to take it out. I was lucky enough to have a buddy with a Sierra recently purchase a Nav/Radio to replace his stock. After a long period of research he bought a Advent OGM 1. This radio is awesome. It fits and looks stock. I was in his truck for 1 minute before I made up my mind. Replaced mine today. NO NOISE anymore and a way better radio with Nav and DVD. Love it!!!! Hope this helps someone.

Several manufactures make aftermarket radios That are compatible. With a few add on features and modifications you will be able to keep existing hands free, onstar, etc. The new radios have many more features than stock. Pioneer and clarion make good replacement radios that come with built in navigation, dvd, 3d maps, back up camera, usb in and out, and room for expansion of external viewing screens and more. Make sure you use an experienced installer! Not uncle joe's friends neighbor
david.....I bought my OGM 1 nav/ radio from ADC MOBILE www.adcmobile.com Ask for Walt. He is honestly the most informative radio rep out there. The OGM 1 installs in 1/2 hr. All plug and play. All your steering wheel controls work the same. Its the perfect radio. Looks exact stock. You can get the back up cam option as well. I didn't but maybe down the road. Trust me.....no more high pitch noise. This radio is GREAT!

GM was no help. I was told by the dealership and GM that this is a known issue but it's a characteristic of the truck and "it's just the way it is". It seems to me there is something GM can do to help me but chooses not to. A complete waste of time. It seems everyone is getting the same runaround from the dealership and GM when they both know right off the bat that they are not going to do anything to resolve the problem.
Its odd that everyone acted as if there wasn't an issue and that there was no bulletin on this known issue until I did hours of research, brought in copies of this forum, talked to GM directly, etc... all of a sudden the service department now can hear the high pitch noise and the customer service person at GM now said there actually is a bulletin on this.... Still nothing anyone can do.
I've always been a big fan of GM...after the way this was handled, not so sure anymore.
I'll be replacing the radio this week so I can stand to drive the thing. Live and learn I guess.

You can add 2012 Silverado 2500 to the list of vehicles with the high pitched radio noise. Picked mine up a few weeks ago. Seemed odd that the salesman had the radio on when I went to pick it up. I changed the channel driving home and didn't notice the noise until the next morning when I was adding stuff to the glove box. Removing the RDO fuse killed power to the radio and made the noise stop. I tried disconnecting the XM box and OnStar but the noise persists. Several different relatives ranging from kids to retired folk have commented on the noise. I was surprised to find such an outcry on the web regarding this problem. The truck is going back to the dealer to get the issue documented. I've tried to stay true to American made vehicles but this problem and others with a GMC I owned are making it hard to justify. If they can't or wont fix this it will be the end of GM for me.
