Default 2wd 700r4 in a 4wd??

I'm building a 355 for my '76 K-10 truck and figured now is a good time to swap the th350 for a 700r4. I've looked into and am pretty confident on what I need for the swap but I wanted to know what it takes to use a 2wd 700r4 in a 4wd. Is it just a matter of removing the tail housing and mating to the x-fer case (NP203)? I can't find any info on this. The tranny I'm looking at getting is out of an '89 Iroc. What will I need to do. I have a friend that used one out of a late 80's buick and has ALOT more HP and uses it ALOT harder than me so I thought I'd give this one a shot but I can't get a hold of him.
Thanks
