Default 305 to 350 swap?

First of all, I would like to say hey andthis is an awesome forum. I roam around looking for useful info and finally joined up. I hope I posted in the correct sub forum.

So now to my question, I have a 97 Chevy Silverado 1500 with a 305 vortec, what my dad and I would like to do is take out the 305 and swap it with a 350 vortec or maybe a 383...most likely the 350. My main questions are: how much would it cost (in new parts and what not) and is there a LOT of labor included...keep in mind that my dad was a mechanic so we know what minimal and excessive labor is. Thanks for the help in advance.

thats exactly what i want to do in my 98 and my dads 97. let me tell you. its going to be expensive because of emissions. well... if your lucky and dont need emissions or can get by legally with having another motor in the truck then you got one thing out of the way. but usually with emission control laws you cant operate a vehicle 96-up with carb unless its like classified differently and bla bla there. now if your lucky again and are able to run carb then it isnt that bad to swap out. i got the 350 both in mine and my dads but i want a stroker... and so the initial removal isnt hard looking. ive spent some time uner my hood and truck and as long as you can get to every bolt that goes to the trans and then all the electrical it looks pretty darn easy. the mounts are in a good accessible area as well. now the new motor, are you building it all or getting a longblock 350 or boring and stroking the 305 because really. save yourself a ton of time by keeping that 305 block. its the same damn thing as the 350. different stroke. so just bore and stroke that puppy after getting the block machined and cleaned and your set. if you go efi youll need to replace the computer i think from the stock motor and change out some wiring. trans will bolt right up but if your going with a stroker and if your looking for beastly power personally id beef my trans some too. difficulty level is up there but with it being a small block chevy... the worlds most common block ever, theres plenty of info on it. when you do the swap. please man it would be sweet if you took pics or something an posted them here. oh... if you find out your current block is a hydrolic roller then the cam and lifters will be slightly more in cash but wellll worth it.

You can not bore a 305 out too a 350. You are getting bad advice go to a 5.7 complete motor and switch it out. 305 is a great boat anchor.

No worries cams. Bubba, will a 5.7 drop in the same as the 305? Can I transfer over a lot of the 305 stuff? ya know...small stuff that gets expensive. Also, I already have a beefed up trani. FYI this is efi and has throttle body spacer, intake, headers, blah blah...we are wondering if any of that can transfer over? I know most won't but is there ANYTHING that will?
