350 to a 454
I'm thinking about putting in a 454 when my 350 blows up in my 98 1500. Ive heard it can be an easy swap and I've heard it can be a pain. Would my 4l60E run the 454? Can I reprogram my computer to it or will I have to by a new one? And is it really worth my time?
It's my only truck so if this is a 2 week project I won't be able to do it. I expect my engine to not last much longer. It's got 202,000 miles and losing power pretty fast. I've got a buddy that has a 454 at his house with 100k miles on it and he would sell it to me for $700 so it would be cheaper then buying a new 350. I've seen trucks like mine with a 502 in it so it couldn't be that hard could it?

For another thousand you can get a new crate motor from jegs not sure i would put a 454 infront of a 4L60e maybe with some mods to the trans but i think all the 454's had the 4l80e,i bought my burb a year and half ago with 256,000 on it as far as i can tell its the original motor but trans has replaced
look into your cat's make sure there not plugged

Easy? Well, maybe.
What they didn't tell you is that you'll drop another grand on parts needed to make the switch. Almost NOTHING interchanges.
Drop a crate in 'er 'cause you wouldn't be satisfied with the rat anyway. 'Bout the only thing you'll gain is the extra weight to lug around.
Been there, done that.
