Default 4L60E Filter Change

I've been working on this for days now in my 95 K1500
I got the old filter out but that little metal ring is still in the tranny and it doesnt seem to wanna come out. I've taking a pick to it and all and its still in there, and info on how i can get this out?
I dont see anyone else having this problem

I can only speak for the 4L60E on a 1997 Tahoe but I don't recal any metal ring having to come out, the filter should just push back up into the port and be held in by a rubber o-ring....

Yes the 4l60e is a computerized version of the 700r4 and it is part rubber then part metal for that o ring, the filter and gasket kit comes with a new ring to its better to change it all as you should, i've just tried 2 picks at it and it still doesnt want to come out at all its not even budging

Pry it out carefully with a screw driver. It can be a pain in the a*s

you know, when i did mine, it came right out. when i did a customers blazer, same thing. when i did this heavily used truck, it was a 20 minute battle. but finally got it out. now, on transgo's site i have a video on how to install a shift kit and they say if the ring looks in good condition re-use it. same goes for the gaskets. but i never re-use gaskets.

Yeah, the new, thick gaskets are meant to be re-used. Of course if you want to pay 60$ + for one at a stealership, be my guest.

When I service the trans on my truck, I had to use an ice pick to bend the ring inward and then I pulled it out with a pair of pliers. Its copper it think so it bends fairly easily.

I had some clearance (my truck was on a lift), and used a Seal Puller (see attached thumbnail) to remove the o-ring from the old xmsn, and it was still a pain! Take your time and try not to marr (scratch) the side walls or you will lose pressure.

success,
