Default 4L60E Problem, Can Anyone Help Please!!

Dear Fellow Chevy guys and gals,
I need help with a transmission problem. I have a 1996 Chevy 1500 305 vortec with the 4L60E transmission. Well its messed up. If i put it in 1 it works fine, if I put it in 2 it works fine in gear one and two. If I put in in three it shifts from 1 to 2 then it slips and revs up and will not go into 3 or OD, In drive goes through gears one and two fine then slips and will not go higher then 2nd gear. It happneds under light or heavy acceleration. I need some advice on what it could be. The last transmission I tore apart was a chevy 3T40. So any advice would be great. Thanks

Sincerely
Kyle

I would say that third gear went out in it.

I agree with jmack91z28, sounds like you lost 3rd gear, time for a rebuild. By the way, welcome to the forum!!!

If your signature is anything to go by...forget the 60E and start looking for an 80E. The 60E won't stand up to a 572! (or anything more than a stock 350 for that matter)

Another thing to try is disconnecting the battery. With it having 1, 2, and rev, it sounds like it may be in fail safe mode. If you disconnect the battery for a few minutes then reconnect and it works well, you may have a solenoid or converter problem causing it to go into fail safe.
