5.3 Crew mileage
Hello All,
Ford man here (don't hate me). I'm considering getting a Silverado 2WD crew cab with a 5.3L. What kind of mileage is realistic for this configuration?
Thanks,
CMOS

RE: 5.3 Crew mileage
A normal tank (some city and some highway) should yield you about 16-17mpg.
15mpg should be about the worst case scenerio (not towing)
21mpg the absolute very best with a very light foot on the highway.

Just purchased the same truck as you describe.
Out of the dealer, 350 mile trip got 15.8 freeway mileage. Drove 70-90 most of the way. Not the best in the world. Hopefully it gets better with some mileage on the engine.

08,
Give us an update on your mileage in another month or two.
I'm betting if you kept your speed in the 65-70 MPH range you'd do about 2 MPG better.

wheni went to milwuakee school of engineering to see about attending last year... it was a 100 miles there and 100 back. i was goin 80 mph on the cruise control the whole way there and back. i got a 23 gallon tank. i got there and back in under half a tank. i put 50 more miles then it was half tank. so 250 miles on 13 gallons er so. then again i was doing 80 at like2000 rpm er so. that was the best mileage i got i was so surprised. of course it got worse city driving but had i went all highway im sure i would have gotten 500 or more. i swear. i own a 1998 ext. cab short bed 1500 and mods are K&N cold air andglasspacks(took off muffler and slapped the bad boys on there) at the time. i was getting about 19.34 mpg. its alright for a 350 smallblock at 70000 miles.

RE: 5.3 Crew mileage
I have been getting around 13 in town and 17 highway on my '07 2wd LT2 with 20's. I have a Extang cover and I think it helped a little. I have only about 6K on it and am hoping things improve.

RE: 5.3 Crew mileage
I have a similar, but not exactly the same, truck as you are considering. (Mine is a '07 Classic Crew with the 4.8) I get 15-16 in true city driving, 17-18 in a 12 mile urban commute, and 20-21 on the highway at 70-75mph (all figures are supplied by a Scanguage). These trucks are VERY sensitive to the way that they are driven and a nice steady foot is critical to getting good fuel economy with them.
