I know the engines are the same but the little differences make a difference.
I am trying to trade a 98 2X4 with a 97 4X4 and the oil filters are totally different. What do I need to do to make it fit?

It's not uncommon for 2wd and 4wd of the same year to use different oil filters. Haven't had an opportunity yet to look under a 4wd that uses a different filter, but I suspect a front driveshaft clearance issue. Maybe someone out there will tell us for sure.

swap the oil filter adapters.

95 and earlier use a 5.7L VIN K and has Throttle body injection. and 96 and later 5.7L VIN R used central SFI.
