6.5 TD starter problem
<FONT size=3>
HELP REQUESTED ! I have a chronic, intermittent starter "failure to engage" problem in my truck. It is a Canadian 1999 GMC K-3500 with 6.5 diesel engine, used for full time towing of an 11,000 lb. fifth wheel trailer. In the 27 months I have owned this truck, the starter has been replaced 3 times by GM dealers. I am convinced that the problem is not the starter itself, but an electrical problem of some sort. The current starter was installed 2 months ago, and there have been about half a dozen "failure to engage" incidents. Usually the problem manifests itself when the truck is hot, although it has happened a few times when the truck is cold. When the ignition key is turned, nothing happens. Usually, a tap on the starter with a breaker bar results in the starter engaging. Occasionally, it simply requires repeated turns of the ignition key, and eventually the starter engages. Both batteries have been recently replaced. The battery cable to starter and alternator has recently been replaced with GM factory original cable, and correct diesel side terminal bolts. Has anybody had a similar problem ? Does anybody know what the problem is, and how to solve it ? Please send response by e-mail to dkirby9152@aol.com. Thank you.</P></FONT><edited><editID>dkirby9152@aol.</editID><editDate>38701.0674884259</editDate></edited>
