I just got a 82 silverado shortbed. The problem is it needs a new bed and i was wondering how much to pay for another bed? I know absolutely nothing about trucks this is my first one and I know it may be a dumb question but you gotta start somewhere. I dont want to get ripped off and pay to much.

 

Junkyard. I wouldn't expect to pay more than a couple hundred for one. But then there is painting it, that will run you at least twice what the bed itself cost.

There is like 8 or so bolts holding the bed on, plus the taillights and fuel filler neck. Pretty simple, but it will take 4 people to carry one. Bring a can of PB Blaster and a big *** breaker bar if you are pulling one off of a junkyarder, those bolts are sure to be rusted on there.

Craigslist would be another option, bet you can find someone within driving distance that is parting out a truck.

 

well painting it isnt a problem i was gonna paint the truck anyways (it has at least 5 different colors on it already)!!!!!!!!!! What years would fit? only 82 shortbed silverados or will other years fit to?

 

I do believe any short bed from that generation will fit. 1973-1987.
