Question 83 chevy c10

just curious if there was a way to test and tell if the floater is bad or the sending unit is bad on my fuel tank? it has to be one or the other just dont know if there was anything i could do to eliminate one or the other?

Fuel gauges can be difficult to diagnose. Disconnect the wire at the fuel tank and see what the dash unit does. Then ground it. It should go from on extreme to another (full to empty) Make sure you have a good ground from the tank unit to the frame.

I know its a simple suggestion but floats have been know to develop small pin holes, not sure if those have the solid or the true bubble style floats. Good Luck

okay so if i was to take the ground away and put it back on and it jumps whats that telling me? the ground is bad? or the sending unit is bad?
